Introduction

The debate around artificial intelligence or ‘AI’ has attracted antitrust interest among regulators, governments, and policymakers.

Concerns have been raised that AI can widen the set of circumstances in which known forms of anticompetitive conduct, and particularly conscious parallelism or tacit collusion can occur.

Additionally, there is a concern that use of algorithms will bring newer forms of anti-competitive conduct which challenge traditional antitrust orthodoxy with new (non-price) elements such as price discrimination, data extraction and data capture.

This new webinar provides an exploration of how practices relating to AI are increasingly a focus of competition and regulatory authorities.

What You Will Learn

This webinar will cover the following:

  • What is AI?
  • Whether AI leads to anti-competitive outcomes or other concerns
  • Whether there might be other (not anti-competitive) outcomes from the use of AI
  • Views from the regulators on attribution of liability for AI decisions
  • Examples of competition law scrutiny of AI practices in the UK, USA and internationally
  • Case studies from sectors which have grappled with AI and what lessons can be learned (including fintech, telecoms, robotics, and autonomous vehicles)

This webinar was recorded on 4th April 2022
