Introduction

Since 12 February 2024, developments requiring planning permission in England have (broadly) been subject to the mandatory Government requirement that the wildlife habitat on site will be left at least 10% better off (with more, or better quality, biodiversity) following the development.

This webinar sets out the basics of Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) for real estate professionals - when the obligations bite, what they mean and how the new law could change the practice of development across England. With a combination of legal detail and practice tips, the viewer will understand how to help clients prepare effectively for BNG compliance.

What You Will Learn

This webinar will cover the following:

  • An overview of biodiversity net gain
  • When and how the biodiversity gain must be evidenced
  • Exemptions to compliance
  • Achieving biodiversity - the BNG hierarchy
  • The registration and control of off-site units
  • Opportunities to build habitat banks
  • Enforcement
