Introduction

Since the pandemic, there has been a 26% increase in dog attacks. Hospital admissions have risen and 11 people died between from dog bites between January 2022 and December 2023.

The number of dogs seized by police forces in England and Wales continues to rise with around 2000 dogs seized in 2023.

There has also been an impact following the change in the legislation regarding ownership of XL Bully type dogs. Over 35000 XL bully dogs have been exempted, however it is believed there may be thousands more who are not.

As a consequence, the number of prosecutions for offences involving dangerous dogs has increased. This webinar is designed to highlight the key offences relating to the ownership and control of a dangerous dog.
