Introduction

Clients are keen to pass on their estate to their loved ones during their lifetime, particularly as they are fearful of the cost of social care.

Social services are increasingly looking at whether an adult with social care needs has previously made gifts with the intention of reducing the amount they will subsequently pay for their care and support needs. In some cases, social services may look back over many years.

This live broadcast session is aimed at all professionals who advise on the making of gifts, particularity where the client is not a high net worth individual, and whose main asset is their home.

What You Will Learn

The live and interactive session will cover the following:

  • Understanding when deliberate deprivation is relevant
  • Identifying what cannot be treated as a deliberate deprivation
  • Understanding the components of deliberate deprivation, including purpose and timing
  • Increase awareness of when a deprivation can be inferred
  • Identify when a gift can be made when already in receipt of care
  • Update on Local Government Ombudsman decisions
  • Strengthen ability to challenge an adverse decision

Recording of live sessions: Soon after the Learn Live session has taken place you will be able to go back and access the recording - should you wish to revisit the material discussed.
