Introduction

The intermediaries legislation - commonly known as IR35 - was introduced in 2000 and has been a controversial part of the tax system ever since.

In recent years, it has gained in notoriety with high-profile court cases involving television presenters making the news. But it is not just TV stars who need to consider the IR35 rules - they apply to all sectors, and to a huge sway of working arrangements.

In this short webinar, IPSE’s Director of Policy Andy Chamberlain will demystify the legislation. He explains what IR35 is, why it came to be on the statute book and why it is still causing so much disagreement today, more than two decades after it was introduced.

What You Will Learn

This webinar will cover the following:

  • What is IR35 and why is it so controversial?
  • Who is within scope of the IR35 rules - and who needs to worry about it?
  • What are the impacts of IR35 - both positive and negative?
  • How are 'inside' and 'outside' IR35 engagements treated differently for tax?

This pre-recorded webinar will be available to view from Thursday 10th April 2025
