Introduction
Dealing with digital assets in wills and considering what happens to such assets on death is becoming increasingly important in the modern world.
Most of us will have digital assets of some description, such as digital photography or music, and online accounts set up with internet service providers.
As access to such accounts is determined by the provider’s own terms and conditions, personal representatives will commonly face difficulties in accessing a deceased account holder’s online data.
However, this can be made easier by lifetime planning.
This short webinar will look at the challenges faced by personal representatives, some examples of the types of terms and conditions imposed by some of the major internet service providers, and what can be done to overcome obstacles when advising clients on their wills.
What You Will Learn
The webinar will cover the following:
- Digital assets - how are they defined and who owns them?
- Digital assets on death - what commonly happens to digital assets when you die?
- Lifetime planning - what practical steps can be taken to deal with digital assets during your lifetime to prevent issues on death?
- Crypto assets - what are they and how should they be dealt with on death?
This pre-recorded webinar will be available to view from Friday 1st August 2025
