Divorce & ‘Silver Separators’ - The Unique Factors Explored

Introduction

This webinar is intended to guide practitioners through the issues that arise with so-called ‘silver separator’ divorces.

The webinar will address the number of unique factors that present themselves in cases involving couples who divorce later in life. This need not necessarily mean a long marriage, with issues arising in cases involving mature couples after a relatively short marriage that have a greater significance than they perhaps would with younger parties. These issues could include the need for pension income, the treatment of significant contributions that may be made in cases of a second or subsequent marriage as well as looking at how to plan for the future with your clients.

Pensions are an inevitable consideration for those couples who have either reached or are imminently facing retirement, and with the recent caselaw and Pension Advisory Group report these assets should rarely be ignored save in unique circumstances.

With couples choosing to have children later in life than they used to, and with house prices continuing to rise, financially dependent adult children are often a feature of silver separator cases, more so than ever before.
