Stalking, Harassment & Revenge Porn - Where Are We Now?

Introduction

Whilst not exclusively offences carried out against females, many such offences can be categorised under the heading of Violence Against Women (VAW).

Successive governments have shown a greater willingness to criminalise such offences and to strengthen legislation which already exists. Indeed, the Police, Crime, Sentencing & Courts Act 2022 has recently bolstered the law in certain respects.

The Protection from Harassment Act 1997 provides the foundation for prosecutions in this area. Over the last 20 years or so, this Act has been built upon with new offences of stalking, ‘revenge porn’ and ‘up-skirting’ being added to the Prosecution’s armoury.

In August 2022, the CPS published new guidance on street-based sexual harassment and offences that will be used to prosecute such offences.

This webinar will consider the 4 particular offences in the Prosecution’s toolbox to deal with such offending.
