Introduction

The Equality Act 2010 plays an important role in property law today, but what the Act means in practical terms in court, in litigation and how it translates into claims for damages are technical questions.

As a result, practitioners need to maintain knowledge of developing case law and pair that with a detailed understanding of the functioning of the Act.

This virtual classroom seminar begins with a review of the key functions of the Act relative to housing law. There follows a consideration of recent cases and guidance from the higher courts as to the role of the public sector equality duty (PSED) found in section 149 of the Act in possession proceedings, homelessness and allocations. The final section will consider damages under the Act.

It is aimed at housing law practitioners who would like to refresh and update their knowledge and hone their practical skills in assessing and quantifying damages.
