Introduction
The Sentencing Act 2020 was introduced to streamline the law related to sentencing into one document rather than multiple Acts.
Containing no less than 420 Sections and 29 Schedules, this webinar will explore some of the most important aspects.
What You Will Learn
This webinar will cover the following:
- Section 14 - committals of adults to the Crown Court for sentencing (either-way offences)
- Section 16 - committals of youths to the Crown Court for sentencing (serious offences - formerly referred to as grave crimes)
- Section 73 - the position regarding credit on a guilty plea (adults and youths) - also the credit position where the Court is obliged to consider a minimum sentence
- Sections 165 and 166 - the imposition of a custodial sentence and a term of disqualification from driving - extensions/adjustments/uplifts
- Sections 233 - 248 - Detention and Training Orders and amendments to the law in this area made under the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022
- Section 250 - sentence of Detention imposed on a youth at the Crown Court for a serious offence - considerations by the Judge and length of sentence
